Ever wondered what it’s like to record a podcast solo? Join me as I navigate this unique experience while Sam is off exploring Portugal. I'll share my current obsessions, from the convenience of the Kindle Paperwhite to the electrifying beats of Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift's latest albums. Plus, I'll gush about the excitement for an upcoming concert with Arizona, Yellow Card, and Third Eye Blind. And, yes, I’ll even reveal my love for lychees from Costco and vent about the universal annoyances of poor communication and those pesky late-night regrets.

Get ready for a rollercoaster of fun with our "Would You Rather?" segment, where we tackle everything from speaking every language (including animal ones) fluently to the whimsical choice between glittery fingers and a runny nose. We’ll discuss the challenges of fighting a hundred ducks versus one giant goose and ponder the profound implications of time travel. From deciding between being known for kindness or sharp intellect to choosing a playful pet dragon over a philosophical robot friend, this episode promises humor, introspection, and a sprinkle of fantasy. Whether it’s making people laugh uncontrollably or controlling your dreams, this solo adventure is set to keep you entertained and engaged from start to finish.

Sam:

Welcome to Babe. What Do you Know About the podcast with your favorite husband and wife, duo Sam?

Tayla:

and Tayla. Each week we dive deep into a new subject, blending fun and seriousness to push boundaries and buttons.

Sam:

Get ready to expand your knowledge, challenge your perspectives and have a blast along the way.

Tayla:

Okay, let me set the scene. I've just put our two kids away by myself, because I'm sitting in a house by myself, minus the two kids, because Sam is away in Portugal. So it's just me, just me. This week it's my first time doing a solo episode. Have to admit, it feels a little bit weird, not sure where to look, not sure if jokes are landing or gonna land. Just kind of a weird world of doing a solo episode. But a lot of podcasters do this and I have major, major, major respect for them. So while we're missing Sam this week, we're just.

Tayla:

I still wanted to get out an episode, still had the time, the free time, because I'm not spending it hanging out with Sam, my bestie, yeah. So we're just gonna go, we're just gonna roll with it today. It's gonna be a light-hearted, fun one today and we'll just see. We'll see what we think, see what we like. But I wanted to start out with a couple of things right now that I am really liking, just as a topic of conversation with myself, because I'm alone, I don't have a story to tell another person. So a couple of things that I'm really liking right now, one really really into my Kindle and by right now.

Tayla:

I mean for the last like five years, I was definitely a more physical book kind of person. I couldn't imagine enjoying reading a digital book of some kind very much at all. But when I discovered the existence of the kindle paper white and like kind of gave it a go, I was hooked. And here's a couple of reasons why I'm hooked on kindle reading and why I love it so much. One you can take it anyway. It's slim, you can have as many books on it pretty much as you want. Like I've never come across memory issues. It's just very easy to take and to get another book and it's cheaper. It's cheaper to buy books, which I do try to buy books as much as possible or use a library app, which you can use a library app and get slash borrow books for free. A lot of people don't know that library for online books, just your local library. It's pretty dope.

Tayla:

Other things I like is that the screen very much feels to my eyes like paper, so it's not difficult to it, doesn't give my eyes screen fatigue or anything like that. I really like it. It very much mirrors the experience of looking at a piece of paper with words on it Battery, cute cases for the Kindle. I don't know, I mean what's not to like. Oh, the other thing is that I can read at night in a shared bed with Sam without bothering him too much with the light, because I can just use the backlight on the actual Kindle without having to have like a reading lamp or put the light on or anything, and we can just both, kind of I can read and fall asleep and he can actually fall asleep without lights bothering him. So I'm really really into Kindles right now, into my Kindle in particular, but I do recommend it. If you've been on the fence, I don't know, it feels worth the investment to me.

Tayla:

Other things I'm liking I'm really liking Billie Eilish's new album Hit Me Hard and Slow. It's a very good listen. It feels like a very cohesive album. Sam really likes it too and it's a really good vibe. I've enjoyed listening to it during my work day. I'll just put it on and play the album through.

Tayla:

A couple other albums that I'm liking to listen to. Like as a cohesive album is Taylor Swift's most recent album, the Tortured Poets Department. I always want to say the Dead Poets Society, but it's the Tortured Poets Department really good listen all the way through, especially at work. It's just a good background vibe. And, yeah, I'm just into music. I'm going to a concert, uh, next week, which I'm very, very excited for it's got three amazing bands In one freaking concert. I'm going to have Arizona, the Band Yellow Card and Third Eye Blind. What else do you need? So I'm stoked. I'm stoked about that and I'm enjoying I don't know Lee cheese or lychee is just depending on where you. It's this fruit that I grew up with. I'm very obsessed with it, and Costco my local Costco here in Utah is selling them and it's delicious. The most amazing snack. Literally feels like a meeting dessert. Such a good flavor.

Tayla:

So the things I'm liking, things that I am not liking people being weird and just not communicating. I hate it when there's an issue or like a weirdness between people and they don't just like say something or talk about it and they just kind of let it fester and leave things to get sorted out by themselves. But it just doesn't really happen that way. So I'm not liking that. I'm not liking a lack of acknowledgement over weirdness. I don't like it because it usually means that I am forced to acknowledge the weirdness even though I don't like it because it usually means that I am forced to acknowledge the weirdness even though I don't feel like I'm causing it. So that's something I'm not liking. Another thing I'm not liking going to bed but then being tired in the morning because I didn't go to bed at a reasonable time. Not liking that. It doesn't seem like a fair situation. So yeah, so those are a couple of things I'm liking and not liking, and today we are going to be doing just an interesting episode.

Tayla:

I thought we would play a game of would you rather, and I would give my thoughts on some things for sure, on social media. If you have a disagreement with me, or if you agree with me on on things that I would or would would rather one way or the other, please do participate. It'll be fun. I'll put some would you rathers in our stories in the next few days. So keep an eye on our social media.

Tayla:

At babe, oh, at babe, what podcast. I apparently don't even remember what our own Instagram social is. So at babe, what podcast. There it is on the stories. We'll go, we'll put, we'll put some of these would you rathers up there and I can see what your guys' takes are.

Tayla:

So for those of you who don't know the game of, would you rather? You're just posed with two typically outrageous situations and you kind of have to pick like which one you would rather. It's pretty intuitive. Sometimes they can be wacky, funny, sometimes they can be more serious. I think we're going to do a good mix today, but that's what it is, that Sometimes it can be more serious. I think we're going to do a good mix today, but that's what it is. That's what it is. So first, would you rather?

Tayla:

Would you rather be able to speak every language fluently, including animal language? Wait, let me reread this, okay. Would you rather be able to speak every language fluently, including animal languages, or have perfect photographic memory? This one feels easy to me. I feel like every language fluently is a no-brainer, especially if it includes animal languages.

Tayla:

As cool as photographic memory is, I feel like it comes with a great burden of also having perfect photographic memory and always remembering everything, and there's a lot of things in life that I don't want to remember or remember in the detail that I would. With a photographic memory, even though, again, super useful, very marketable, I think you can do a lot with a photographic memory, a perfect photographic memory, especially that's so, so rare and very, very cool, but I feel like being able to speak every language fluently doesn't have a lot of the downside of a perfect photographic memory, but does have a lot like pretty much every upside. I mean, what? What is, what is the downside of being able to speak every language fluently? Besides, just like being distracted all the time because you can understand what anyone's saying, I suppose, but I'll take it.

Tayla:

I'll take it.

Tayla:

That's my. Would you rather? Okay, let's do, let's do a weird one. Would you rather have permanently glittery fingers or a permanently runny nose? Oh, oh, that's, that's rough. Okay, permanently glittery fingers or permanently runny nose. And I'm guessing you can't like, be like, oh, I'll have surgery to fix my runny nose. This is kind of it's kind of impossible. A permanently runny nose would be awful. You're just constantly sniffling. You probably only have throat issues. Your voice is going to sound weird. But glittery fingers, like what? Oh, oh, I this one actually has stumped me probably the glittery fingers, but that would be so horrible. Okay, I want to move on from this one. I don't like it. Okay, let's see.

Tayla:

I've heard quite a few variations of this. Would you rather but not this exact one would you rather fight a hundred ducks or one very large goose? I wish I knew, like, how large, like a hundred ducks put together large, then I would for sure do the hundred ducks, but if it's just like very large and scary, then I would do the goose. But geese are gooses, geese are scary. They're really scary actually, especially when they're mad. Ducks feel a lot less intimidating to me. So I feel like I'm going with the ducks. Oh, I feel like I'm going with the ducks.

Tayla:

Okay, let's do a little more serious one. Would you rather travel freely through time but never be able to change anything, or have the ability to see glimpses of the future but not control it? I feel like traveling freely through time. I actually think not being able to change anything by traveling freely through time is actually not a drawback. I feel like that's a positive, because the stress about traveling through time is that you inadvertently change everything due to one like small thing, and I actually would hate that. I would hate having to worry about that all the time, hate having to worry about oh, if I happen to walk into this person or say this one thing, it changes like the entire future. So I would actually really like to be able to travel in time without being able to change anything. Now, of course, that would be depending on where you're traveling in time and what horrible things are going on at the time. It would be really rough to be like, oh, I could just prevent this if I could just let this right person know this right information. So that would be hard, but I feel like I would be able to turn that part of my brain off or at least I would try very hard to and just enjoy seeing history and experiencing very cool events in in history, but not affect the future.

Tayla:

I will say, though, that seeing glimpses of the future, but not control this, is giving me actually like that's so raven vibes. I don't know for any of you younger millennials who watched that's so raven on disney channel. That's kind of what happens, where she's like I don't know if they refer to her as psychic or something but all of a sudden they just like zoom in on her face and her eyes go all crazy and she just like gets an involuntary glimpse of the future. I don't think I would love that, but if it wasn't that frequent, it wouldn't be too bad. Either way still want to travel through time. I am going to presume that if I can't change anything by traveling through time, that nothing bad can happen to me. That's what I'm going to say. It's a pretty good one. Okay, let's see.

Tayla:

Would you rather win the lottery but have everyone know how you spent the money? Or have a guaranteed comfortable life, but never be super rich? Oh, that's easy. I feel like a guaranteed comfortable life, but never. You don't need to be super rich, to have a very comfortable life, and if that's guaranteed, that's the dream. Because I don't know, that is hard. I feel like I am achievement driven. Like very comfortable life and if that's guaranteed, that's the dream, because I don't know, that is hard. I feel like I am achievement driven as a person. So if, if I were to feel like I could never really achieve like some sort of I don't know, I guess it's not really the richness that I would be hoping never to achieve. But maybe I'm assuming that by not achieving richness I also don't achieve like career growth and like have a great idea and do something vocationally that is worth getting that money. But maybe that's like too capitalistic way of thinking of things. So if I don't assume that never being super rich is also comes with like never really doing anything worth anything, then I actually would probably rather choose to win the lottery and have everyone know how I spent money. But if I could have a comfortable life and never be super rich but that doesn't necessarily mean that I don't have a lot of success outside of, like financial then I would do that. I feel like a guaranteed comfortable life is is literally the dream.

Tayla:

I feel like there's been a lot of discussion about this idea of like a universal minimal income or something, and I think it's a really interesting idea that, like for me, as far as just like human rights, I feel like it's hard not to get behind an idea where, you know, no one's on the street and no one is starving and people's basic needs are met. It is a little scary to me to think, okay, if people's basic needs are met, what do they spend their time doing? Of course, a lot of people will still continue to work and get more than just a basic income, but I fear that it's going to go to one or two extremes, like one everyone's going to be super lazy and nothing's going to happen, there's not going to be a lot of progress and everyone's just going to waste their lives doom scrolling or whatever, or like getting violent because they're bored. Or it's going to provide people with so much time that they really go like crazy just thinking of things, learning new things, being super productive because they don't have to worry about basic necessities. I'm not sure which way it would go. Pessimistic part of my brain is saying it would be the former, but it is a very cool, interesting idea. I feel like it's somewhat of an inevitability, at least in the next, like what? 50 years or something. It will be very interesting to see how that plays out.

Tayla:

But anyway, okay, back to, would you rather? Okay, let's see, let's see. Um, would you rather be known for your incredible kindness or your sharp intellect? I feel like this one's easy too. I feel like being known for incredible kindness is what I would pick, because sharp intellect is awesome and I really value it and notice it when people have a sharp intellect. But kindness is just universal, universally, valued universally. I don't know, it just fits within like my values and what I value more, even though I've also value shop intellect, like I just I really think incredible kindness goes a far, a far away, and I honestly wish I was more kind than I am. So I'd rather be known for it and assume that that means that I am actually also incredibly kind, because I would like to be better at that.

Tayla:

Okay, let's do a wacky one. Ooh, okay, ooh. Would you rather have a pet dragon that only eats socks or a robot friend that constantly asks for existential advice? Is this one just too easy as well? I feel like I need to find a hard one, but I would for sure rather have a pet dragon that only eats socks. I feel like my daughter, ella, kind of is not the robot friend, but she is my little friend that constantly asks for existential advice. She's finally gotten into I don't know why, but I kind of figured when kids keep asking like the why, and they get into like questions, and they constantly ask questions, and it's overwhelming. I felt like that happened around two or three, and so I thought like we just missed that with Ella, but apparently it's four years old, at least in our case, and she's just been asking so many questions and I honestly don't really know the answer to most of the questions she's asking, or I don't know how to explain it to someone with her current brain capacity it's very difficult. So Sam is a lot more patient to like actually take the time to figure out how to explain it to someone her age. I really struggle, though, because I'm just like stop asking me questions. I don't think I would love to be followed around by a robot friend that is not as cute as Ella, asking for his existential advice and questions. Definitely would rather have a pet dragon, especially if it only eats socks. All of our socks are mismatched and missing anyway, so may as well, right? Okay, let's do. Let's do a hard one. Let me try to find a hard one. Oh, this is a good one.

Tayla:

Would you rather have the power to make everyone laugh uncontrollably for five minutes or cry tears of joy for one minute? This is a hard one because I feel like neither of these is as common as it should be. Like I really really miss the nights where I'd be up super late with friends and we just like chat and then all of a sudden we're laughing uncontrollably and it's we. It's ridiculous. I really miss that, and it's been a while since I've been able to do that, and I think it's ridiculous. I really miss that, and it's been a while since I've been able to do that, and I think it's very healing and very healthy. But same with tears of joy. I can't remember the last time I was so joyful or happy that I cried. I feel like it's been a really long time and I don't know if that's more of a reflection of it's probably more of a reflection of me just not noticing the goodness in my life than anything else. Either way, I think there's just too little of both. So if I could have the power to either make everyone laugh uncontrollably for five minutes or cry tears of joy for a minute, man, that's hard.

Tayla:

Typically me, laughing uncontrollably leads to crying tears. I don't know if it's necessarily of joy, but it does inherently like move me to hysteria in general. But I feel like I feel like making everyone laugh uncontrollably for five minutes, even though crying tears of joy is like so impactful, I feel like maybe it's a little more rare for a reason. I like I feel like the couple times I can really think that I was crying because I was so happy, because I've cried a lot, because I've been emotional or felt strong emotions, but not necessarily because I'm like so happy. And I feel like when I had each of my kids, I experienced that when I got married, I experienced that when someone like I've had a couple of like friends send me voice messages that like really made me feel seen and heard and loved, and I would say that feeling of validation and being seen is like joy for me. So I've cried for those reasons, but perhaps it's more rare for a reason. So I think the power to make everyone laugh uncontrollably for five minutes Super healing. Everyone needs to have an experience like this, at least like what Every other month we want to say, once a month, I don't know, but it needs to happen more and I would love that. I think that would be amazing. That's probably why people become comedians because there's just something so addicting about having that power to just like give people those moments of just release, I guess by laughing. So, yeah, I think that's what I would do.

Tayla:

Okay, would you rather have the ability to control your dreams or be able to relive your favorite memory perfectly anytime you want? I feel like, in order to relive your favorite memory, you like have to know what it is and, to be honest, I have a really hard time like picking a favorite memory. I have a really hard time picking favorites in favorite memory. I have a really hard time picking favorites in general because there's so it's there's a lot that I like and it's it's hard for me to dislike things. So I feel like the ability to control your dreams, that would be epic, because I feel like you can really control your rest in that way. If you need like a really restful night, like you can do it. If you need a little more pep and pizzazz and like adventure in your life. You can kind of go that way. I feel like that'd be really cool.

Tayla:

So I think, controlling your dreams I have heard that that's like a real thing, people. What do they call it? Like cognitive dreaming or something like that, where you it's like a skill you apparently can learn, which is to be aware in your dreams and then to influence what happens in the dreams. That's only ever happened to me, not so much that I've been able to influence the dream, but I've been able to realize that it's a dream only once or twice and then wake myself up. But it's super uncommon and I can't even imagine being able to just like control everything that was going on. Very, very interesting. I feel like that'd be cool. All right, let's do a wacky one. Here we go.

Tayla:

Would you rather be able to teleport short distances, like a few feet at a time, or have pockets that are always full of mystery snacks and I'm going to assume the mystery snacks are delicious? I have two little kids and frequently find myself where they are hungry and I don't have snacks on me for them to eat. So I do feel like pockets full of mystery snacks is super dope. I love snacks. My kids love snacks. It's very convenient. Teleporting short distances would be very cool, but not as helpful, I think, especially if it's since it's only a few feet at a time.

Tayla:

Okay, would you rather always be 10 degrees too cold or 10 degrees too hot? I feel like 10 degrees too cold and I hate being cold, but I feel like it is easier to adjust to and to like kind of get to a new normal, and I'm guessing this is 10 degrees Fahrenheit. I feel like there's a lot more variation if it's, if it's Celsius, so I'm going to assume it's Fahrenheit. 10 degrees too hot, like it's constant discomfort and it does affect, like, your ability to relax, I think, more than being too cold. You can cozy up, you can put your feet on your husband every night to warm up, which something I I do every night pretty much. I think that's what I would do.

Tayla:

Okay, I think let's do one last one. Let's see would you rather give up all technology for a year or give up all your possessions except for 10 items you choose, okay, so this is a? Would you rather? Because they're both hard, not that they're both great. Oh, I feel like I'd rather. Oh, all technology. I feel like my definition of what that would be would seriously influence this, because if all technology includes like air conditioning, a working stove, things like that, then I feel like I would rather give up everything I have except for 10 items I choose. But if technology is more like phones, computers, tvs, things like that, then I would rather give that up for a year. I feel like that'd be kind of nice. Actually, maybe it would be nicer in theory than it would be in reality. That's likely the case, but I don't know.

Tayla:

You guys are going to have to weigh in on these because I am curious what you guys will think and if anyone super is like yelling at their car or their Bluetooth speaker or just their phone. However, you're listening to this and just being like what the heck, like? What the actual hell? Why would you choose that? I want to know the would you rather?

Tayla:

I don't have a lot of would you rather questions. These I used Gemini to make up for me, but the one that I have remembered from my childhood that I always ask people is would you rather have three nostrils or one nostril? People always inevitably ask like are the nostrils like the same size? I would say whatever your nose size is, the three nostrils would fit into it and the one nostril would fit into it. So obviously, three smaller nostrils and one larger single nostril. Very weird question, but someone asked me that one time and it or it was in a would you rather book or something. But I've always remembered it and always ask people. I think there's only one real right answer. You guys will have to let me know if you agree, but three nostrils way better than one large nostril. That stuff can get up and oh, you can see up it and stuff rather do three nostrils. Anyway, this has been super fun.

Tayla:

I have missed my partner in crime, but he should be back next week. I might actually have to do a solo one as well, because he comes back the day before we release our podcast episodes and we are going straight to that concert I was mentioning at the beginning. So I might need to plan ahead and do another one. Maybe I can convince my cousin to get on and do one with me. She's really awesome. So either way, thank you for joining. This has been an interesting experiment. Hopefully it hasn't been awful to just listen to me talk and talk and talk this whole time, but either way, thank you for joining. This has been an interesting experiment. Hopefully it hasn't been awful to just listen to me talk and talk and talk this whole time, but either way, thank you for joining and I will see you guys next week. Thanks for listening to the Babe. What Do you Know About podcast?
